Academic - Curriculum

Third Form

The Third Year is divided into six Forms with an average of 22-23 boys in each. In addition to the core subjects, boys must make two choices from the following subjects: Latin, Greek, German, Spanish, Drama and Classical Civilisation (Greek is only available to boys taking Latin). At least one of these choices must be a language (ancient or modern). We reserve the right to recommend to some boys that they only take two languages. It may be that if some sets are too full, we cannot meet all choices. Membership of forms is not determined by subject choice.

The school’s policy is to offer all boys in the Third Form as wide a range of subjects and activities as possible. One aim of this policy is to enable boys, towards the end of the year, to make an informed choice of subjects for study to GCSE in the Fourth and Fifth Forms. Another, and equally important, aim is to allow them the broadest educational experience before the demands of external examinations impose the need for choice.

The curriculum, and the allocation of teaching periods, in the Third Form are as follows:

Superimposed upon this curriculum is a Visits programme designed to take advantage of the School’s central location. Boys are taken in small groups to visit institutions or places of interest within easy reach of the School: each boy will go on about eight such visits in the course of the year. Among the organisations recently visited are: City of London Police, Bank of England, London Transport Museum, Cabinet War Rooms, National Gallery, Lloyd’s of London, Fire Brigade, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Design Museum, National Army Museum.
